Your present circumstances in life are a direct result of the actions and decisions you've made—or allowed others to make for you. Only you have the power to change it. Ask yourself, are you content with where you are in life today? Is this the station where you envision spending the rest of your life? If your answer is no, what are you going to do about it?
Blaming others, your family, your partner, your boss, or the circumstances you were raised in might be convenient, but it won't help you. These excuses will only hold you back. You are here because of your actions; now it's time to rectify them. You will be rewarded with the same results if you continue on the same path. My grandmother often reminded me, “You can’t sow corn and reap peas.”
Fixing this mess requires drastic action and a change, of course. This path will be unfamiliar and intimidating, but you must dig deep to find the power to stick to it. You will lose some friends and family members, but that is alright. Better friends are ahead. What is important now, is breaking the old mold and choosing a path to success. This journey is daunting at first. Nonetheless, to reap the rewards, you must stay on course and persevere even when insurmountable obstacles confront you and you can't see a way out.
The greatest challenge on this path is yourself; it is overcoming the naysayer in you who keeps telling you to give up, who keeps saying you are not good enough, not smart enough, and not strong enough. Our minds can be our greatest enemy. You must push away that negative voice every time it speaks and fill your mind with thoughts of success and the enjoyment of reaping the rewards of your labor. Depending on your circumstances, you may even be faced with eviction because you can’t pay your rent or mortgage. Everything around you may seem to be falling apart. This is when you dig even deeper to find the willpower you didn't know you had, hold your head high, and push forward harder and stronger. This is also when you need faith in yourself, the power of the universe, or what many call God.
It is at this time when you have given everything to your cause that divine intervention steps in to lend you a hand. God only helps those who help themselves. This is why prayers alone don’t work for those stuck in poverty. They work hard and pray but lack the courage to leave the familiar path and truly pursue their dreams. To invoke the assistance of the universe’s powers, you must prove that you have the will to deserve it. There is no other way. No amount of praying is going to lift you from poverty. It simply does not work that way.
